October's Blogger of the Month - Maryam

19 comments:

Welcome to the October installment of my blogger of the month series. Each month I will be recognizing and featuring someone who I believe to be a true talent in the beauty blogging world by displaying their work for you guys to see. I have included a interview as well as a gallery of their best work for the feature. And as a special treat, I commissioned an exclusive look for the monthly 'Pigments & Palettes Challenge'. The next blogger I've decided to feature is:

Maryam is an absolute delight to know and behold. Her posts are so well crafted, personable and genuinely enjoyable to read. Confession! I also have a huge girl crush on her (but don't tell). In all seriousness though, shes a doll. She has that certain 'Je ne sais quoi' about her blog that catches your attention and the personality to keep it. I must say that Maryam is different from past BOTMs in the sense that she isn't as focused on high drama looks but the looks she does create are SO stunning and beautifully put together as well - I've never seen a look that doesn't look phenomenal on her. If you're searching for pretty day looks or an exquisite evening makeup ensemble then her blog is an absolute must see. Read on to get to know a little bit more about Mademoiselle Maryam.

THE INTERVIEW
Getting to Know You: The Beauty Behind the Blog

Why did you start blogging?
I originally started blogging because I wanted to share my interests with other like-minded individuals. It took me a while to come up with a topic to blog about because my interests vary dramatically, ranging from traveling to performing arts to international relations to fashion/beauty. I chose to do beauty blogging because the subject is very targeted and catered to a specific audience: women (and some men :) Blogging about beauty has allowed me to connect with women across the world and that human connection is what keeps me going today.

What does your blog name mean, and how did you come up with it?
Fix Your Face is an old saying suggesting the same thing as the saying that tells us to Turn Our Frowns Upside Down. At the same token, "Fix Your Face" literally suggests "fixing" one's face--in this case, with makeup. I liked "Fix Your Face" because it was both positive in its message and very literal in its meaning. Today, however, I'm starting to rethink "Fix Your Face" and I'm even considering dropping it, because someone pointed out that it actually sounds negative and suggests plastic surgery... lol. Since that's not me at all, the negative connotation hadn't even dawned on me!!! Oh well, I know what I meant by it ;)) The second part of my blog name is Maryam Maquillage which is my pseudonym. The word Maquillage means makeup in French and Russian, which are two cultures that are very near and dear to my heart.

What are the three most important things for people to know about you?
1. I love people
2. I accept criticism
3. I am extremely thankful

What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
People are always surprised to learn that I've been in a 10 year relationship and I'm only in my mid-twenties.

Describe your beauty philosophy in a six word sentence
Love Yourself And Your Perfect Imperfections

What would you say is your signature look?
Sharp cat-eye liner and nude or bright pink lips

Who or what serves as your biggest source of inspiration & why?
I'm an extremely visual person and I love eye candy. I'm inspired by the colors of nature (lady autumn over here), ethnic prints & textiles, impressionist paintings, exotic birds and butterflies, cultures, destinations, people, beaches, animals, and my fellow bloggers.

What is the skill you're most proud of and what skill would you like to improve on?

I'm pretty good at anything that requires a steady hand and an artistic eye. I come from a family of artists and they'd kill me if I'd downplay that talent. I would definitely like to improve my blending skills--I wish I was more patient when it comes to eyeshadows :)

What was the first look you did and what do you think of it now?
LOL... My first post was a Kim Kardashian look I copied from one of her pictures. I bought NARS Schiap lipstick and wanted to see what eye look to pair it with. If you type Nars Schiap in google, her pic will come up and I basically did the same look. I still like the makeup, I just wish I was a bit more creative :))

What's one question you want to ask to next month's beauty blogger?
What are some of your biggest blogging pet peeves?
